MULTILINGUAL PUBLISHING AND BOOK DESIGN FOR WATAWA WA TAA
Bringing stories from Catholic Sisters across Africa and the wider diaspora into vibrant publications designed to work across languages, regions and formats.
Living Ancestors is a multilingual publication developed through the Watawa Wa Taa Initiative in Nairobi, Kenya. The series documents and celebrates the lives, leadership, faith and service of Catholic Sisters whose work has shaped communities across Africa and the wider diaspora.
The client gathers the stories and works directly with its contributors, authors and translators. Dreamcolor Creative Studio receives the completed materials, then compiles, designs and prepares each edition for print and digital access.
Volume 1 was completed in English and French. An English edition of Volume 2 is currently in development, building on the process established through the first volume.

Translated text changed the length and flow of each edition, requiring careful layout adaptation. Time-zone differences, connectivity limitations and international delivery considerations also meant the project could not depend on a single publication format.
DCC-Studio compiled the completed contributor and translated materials into an organized, accessible publication system. Each edition was structured to accommodate changing text lengths while maintaining consistency and readability.
The visual direction uses vibrant color, pattern and imagery to reflect the African regions and communities represented. DCC-Studio developed the design system, formatted each edition and prepared the completed files for print production.
DCC-Studio created digital flipbook editions to complement the printed books, giving the client additional options for sharing the publication across locations, devices and varying access conditions.
Living Ancestors Volume 1 was completed in English and French, with coordinated print-ready and digital editions that preserve the series’ visual identity across languages and formats.
The project also established a clearer, repeatable production process for future editions. That evolving system is now supporting the development of Volume 2 in English.
By combining print and digital formats, Watawa Wa Taa has flexible ways to preserve and share the stories of Catholic Sisters whose faith, leadership and service continue to shape communities across Africa and beyond.
