CUSTOM BOOK DEVELOPMENT FOR COCOON CONSULTING

The Fading Garden

Shaping a deeply personal caregiving journey into a calm, relatable publication for families navigating dementia.

Overview

The Fading Garden: A Daughter’s Journey with Dementia was inspired by author Gail S. Turner-Day’s experience caring for her mother. The book combines a personal family story, professional insight and opportunities for readers to reflect on their own caregiving experiences.

Cocoon Consulting is an Oak Lawn-based counseling and coaching practice founded by Turner-Day, a mental health professional with more than 30 years of experience supporting individuals, families and professionals through transition, healing, caregiving and personal growth.

Dreamcolor Creative Studio partnered with Cocoon Consulting on the parts of the publishing process where support was needed, from organizing and designing the publication to coaching the client through its online publishing setup.

The Challenge

The manuscript brought together a deeply personal family story, professional guidance and reflective elements. Each part needed to feel connected without overwhelming the intimacy of the author’s voice or the sensitivity of the subject.

The finished book also needed to support Cocoon Consulting’s work with clients while remaining accessible to caregivers and families reading independently.

What DCC-Studio delivered

Content Organization and Structure

DCC-Studio helped organize the manuscript into a clear, cohesive reading experience that balanced personal narrative, professional insight and space for reflection.

Book Design and Visual Development

The cover, interior layout and formatting were developed to create a warm, approachable publication. Personal family materials, including photographs that required light restorative work, were handled with care and incorporated thoughtfully.

Publishing Coaching and Handoff

DCC-Studio prepared the final publication files and coached Cocoon Consulting through establishing its own account with an online publishing platform. The client can now manage the publication and future updates directly.

The Result

The collaboration transformed Cocoon Consulting’s personal and professional caregiving experience into a polished publication that can be used within the practice and shared with a wider audience.

The Fading Garden gives caregivers and families a thoughtful way to explore caregiving, memory, family connection and loss through the author’s story and their own reflections.

Cocoon Consulting now has a finished publication and direct ownership of its online publishing presence, allowing the practice to manage the book independently.
